                                                                                  MESSAGE FROM THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

As Lieutenant Governor of the United States Virgin Islands, I welcome and invite the rest of the world to join us in celebration of the grand Virgin Islands Transfer Centennial, March 31, 2017.

In this generation, we are fortunate for the once in a lifetime opportunity to witness this monumental milestone, in commemoration of 100 years of the transfer of the Danish West Indies to the United States of America. Many Virgin Islanders before us have paved the way for us to be here today, as we now reflect on 100 years of new and shared cultures and traditions. Throughout the century, the Virgin Islands has transformed and developed far beyond what it used to be when the uncertainty and impact of being owned by another country weighed heavily on the consciences of the citizens during that time. Today, we stand tall and courageous as a territory that has produced many generations of prominent and notable Virgin Islanders who are trailblazers in their own rights.

The people of the Virgin Islands are proud of their American citizenship, and yet warmly acknowledge their Danish connection. Having the influence of both countries, the Virgin Islands has benefitted tremendously through language, education, culture, art, and architecture. We are the haven for our American and Danish visitors whom we welcome and embrace with our warm Virgin Islands hospitality. This Transfer Day Centennial appropriately depicts our journey from then to now.

I extend my congratulations and well wishes to the people of these United States Virgin Islands on this momentous Transfer Day occasion. Happy Centennial to all!

Osbert E. Potter
Lt. Governor of the  United States Virgin Islands

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF UVI

UVI President David Hall

There are moments in the life of any nation or community when its destiny is changed forever due to one act or policy. For the beautiful, historic and precious Virgin Islands laying in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, that act occurred close to 100 years ago with the transfer of these impressive and strategic islands to the United States.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDING JUDGE FROM THE SUPERIOR COURT

"History balances the frustration of 'how far we have to go' with the satisfaction of 'how far we have come'. It teaches us tolerance for the human shortcomings and imperfections which are not uniquely of our generation, but of all time." - Lewis F. Powell, Jr.
